Bridging Practice and Theory
At East 15 School of Acting,Dr Holly Maples teaches undergraduate and postgraduate classes in performance practice, directing, and site specific performance and supervise a number of Ph.D. projects in performance studies and practice based research.
Being a scholar and practitioner offers the unique opportunity to draw pedagogical techniques from diverse research and performance methodologies. I find the combination of practice based learning with creative ensemble based experimentation and theoretical debate invigorates the classroom and allows students to have a multifaceted approach to theatre studies and an empowered and active learning style.
As a performer, director and facilitator I teach a variety of theatrical techniques from my own training at Central School of Speech and Drama and my work as a performer in New York City, Ireland and the United Kingdom. It is my belief that an actor, or budding theatre maker, needs to develop their physical, vocal and imaginative instrument through a combination of theatrical training methods which will nurture an active, intelligent and diversified performer.
